Maybe you’ve heard the phrase: “God is good all the time. All the time God is good.” It’s true.
It’s still true when circumstances of life turn difficult and foreboding.
Followers of Jesus are called on to serve Him and trust Him regardless of what transpires in life. Let’s
take any and all steps to have relief of hard situations – seek advice, medical attention, pray for help,
healing, etc. – but trust Him regardless of whether we receive the requested relief, healing, etc., or not.
It’s easier to be thankful and give thanks when life is as we would want it, but it’s not as easy when we
are suffering in some way. In Scripture, the Apostle Paul, who suffered much during his life after coming
to know Jesus, writes, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is
the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)
One of my favorite songs to play on the radio is sung by the Christian group Kutless and written by Scott
Krippayne and Tony Wood (originally from Chase City, the location of WJYK) states:
Sometimes all we have to hold on to Is what we know is true of who You are.
So when the heartache hits like a hurricane That could never change who You are.
And we trust in who You are
Even if the healing doesn’t come
And life falls apart And dreams are still undone
You are God You are good
Forever faithful One
Even if the healing Even if the healing doesn’t come
Lord we know Your ways are not our ways
So we set our faith in who You are
Even though You reign high above us
You tenderly love us We know Your heart
And we rest in who You are
Even if the healing doesn’t come
And life falls apart And dreams are still undone
You are God You are good
Forever faithful One
Even if the healing Even if the healing doesn’t come
Lately, these lyrics have become even more poignant to me. So, let’s set our hearts on trusting, loving,
and serving God, no matter what. He is worthy and it is worth it – worth anything we go through in this
life. “Great is the LORD and greatly to be praised …” (Psalm 48:1) Let’s rejoice in the Lord, no matter
what. Let’s keep praying without ceasing, and trust God since we know He is good and wise. We may
not know what is eternally best for us, but He does. Let’s give God thanks in all circumstances, even the
difficult ones. This is God’s will for us, and His will is the best, even if we can’t see how.
“God is too good to be unkind and He is too wise to be mistaken. And when we cannot trace His hand, we must trust His heart.” (Charles Spurgeon)
Grace and peace to you,
Pastor Steve
