Welcome
Welcome to our Church Home…..
Welcome to First Baptist Church of South Hill, Virginia.
If you are a soul seeking peace and a closer relationship with the Lord, the family of First Baptist is excited to welcome you to our church. First Baptist is a church that desires to love one another, serve the Lord and welcome those seeking a church home. Our prayer is that you will visit/join our church to share in the experience of peacefulness of being accepted, loved, sharing in meaningful fellowship, and participating in joyful worship. We also focus on spreading God’s love through working together on missions, ministries and outreach to those local and far away. Come gather with us and become part of our First Baptist Church family.

A New Year’s Resolution
Most Bible believing Christians have never read the whole Bible through from Genesis to Revelation. But 2021 could be the year that you do it. You will be amazed at how good God is and how wicked people are. You will be amazed to meet the people you heard about as a child in Sunday School. You will hear God speak to them and to you. You will encounter God as you never have before. You will get to know God in a deeper, more mature way. You will understand how to face the trials and joys of life in a godly, joyful and faithful manner.
But it does seem like an overwhelming task. Perhaps you have already tried it and failed. It is a big job. There are 1,189 chapters, 31,102 verses in those 66 books of the Bible library. But by reading less than 4 chapters a day you can do it in a year. Nothing will grow your faith faster than soaking your soul in the inspired Word of God every day for a year. It is your soul’s food. Your prayers will be the result of listening to God and entering a two-way conversation with Him.
There are many Bible reading programs available online or you can just make it a habit to read four chapters of the Bible before bed or when you get up in the morning. Having a time and place for your daily appointment with God will help you keep your resolution.
Many people will make resolutions regarding eating and exercise, especially when we get through this pandemic, and bodily exercise is profitable but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.
Please let me know if you decide to do this and I will be glad to help you in any way I can. I have done this at least 25 times and have discovered new truths every time.
My prayer is that 2021 will be the best year ever for your spiritual growth in Christlikeness!
Joyfully in Christ,
Interim Pastor Dan Peters
November 7
Dear Church Family, Thank you for your gift of appreciation last month. It is wonderful to feel appreciated. Brenda and I appreciate you! You have made us feel “at home.” Pastoring you during this time is a blessing. Preaching from the pulpit of First Baptist is a privilege and I thank you for the opportunity. It is my prayer that my interim ministry with you will in some way prepare the way for your next pastor. Whatever I can do to make the transition to your new pastor smooth and seamless is what I desire. My title “for such a time as this” is interim pastor and the title is correct; however, I am your pastor for this time. Though I’m not at the church every day, I want to be available to you. Do not hesitate to call me or to have Katie let me know of your need or desire to meet with me or to speak with me. The November sermon series will focus on the characteristics of thankfulness and generosity. These characteristics are paramount for the life of a Christian. We could make a case to say they are foundational to an abundant Christian life. In December, we will celebrate Advent using a wreath with candles and readings for each Sunday, followed by a Christ candle for Christmas...
